Holly Quick Backlist Reviews, Bookman!: Week 3

Just to get through some backlog of books I've read, I'll post 4 super short reviews of backlist titles every Wednesday. This week, I'm focusing on 4 graphic novel series.

  1. Moonstruck: Volumes 1-3 by Grace Ellis (Author), Shae Beagle (Artist), and Kate Leth (Artist) (Image Comics, 2018): A charming series cozy fantasy graphic novel series that celebrates the power of love and friendship. Perfect for fans of Lumberjanes. 5 stars.
  2. Morning Glories: Volumes 1-10 by Nick Spencer (Author) and Joe Eisma (Illustrator) (Image Comics, 2011): An intriguing and mysterious premise with compelling characters ultimately becomes overly convoluted. If you're going to read this series, I recommend doing it in quick succession as otherwise it's impossible to keep the many threads together. 3 stars.
  3. Heartstopper: Volumes 1-4 by Alice Oseman (Hodder Children's Books, 2019): This series starts off as a fluffy and delightful romance but progresses into a story featuring serious conversations about love, family dynamics, and mental health issues. Throughout it all, you'll cheer for the main couple and hope that all works out as it should. 5 stars.
  4. Paper Girls: Volumes 1-6 by Brian K. Vaughan (Author), Cliff Chiang (Artist), Jared K. Fletcher (Artist), and Matthew Wilson (Artist) (Image Comics, 2016): A graphic novel series worth binging because of its compelling characters (and their multiple iterations), adventures that arches across multiple times, and dynamic artwork. Binging is also the best way to keep track of everything as the story can be confusing at times because of the many branches, but if you stick with it you will be rewarded with a tale about the friendship and the end of childhood. 4 stars.
