Book to movie, 5: The Woman Who Would Be King: Hatshepsut's Rise to Power in Ancient Egypt
Every four weeks, I will be writing about a book that I think could make a great movie.
Hatshepsut was the longest-reigning female pharaoh in Ancient Egypt, yet few know her story. The Woman Who Would Be King: Hatshepsut's Rise to Power in Ancient Egypt by Kara Cooney does an impeccable job exploring the life of this powerful female leader. Cooney does an impressive job of acknowledging doubt and speculating on likely scenarios for Hatshepsut.
More people should know the story of this woman and, in turn, how she is remembered (or not) today. I could imagine this movie being either a documentary based on The Woman Who Would Be King or a dramatized version of Hatshepsut's life. Either way, sign me up to watch.
