Holly Quick Backlist Reviews, Bookman!: Week 41

Just to get through some backlog of books I've read, I'll post 4 super short reviews of backlist titles every Wednesday.

  1. The Woman Who Would Be King: Hatshepsut's Rise to Power in Ancient Egypt by Kara Cooney (Crown, 2014): Impressive. Cooney provides historical context as well as doubt and speculation and ends with a sobering note on how history remembers female leaders. 5 stars.
  2. Radioactive: Marie & Pierre Curie: A Tale of Love and Fallout by Lauren Redniss (Dey Street Books, 2010): Beautiful and tragic. Redniss weaves Marie Curie's love stories together with her scientific accomplishments as well as the, sometimes, horrific results of those accomplishments. Well worth a read. 5 stars.
  3. The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. LeGuin (Ace Books, 1969): Incredibly interesting and sad. 4 stars.
  4. The Walking Dead, Vol. 1-9 by Robert Kirkman (Author) and Tony Moore (Artist) (Image Comics, 2004): While different than the hit show, well worth a read. 4 stars.
