Christmastime in Milwaukee in 1972--what should be a time filled with wonder and joy is instead filled with horror. A killer dressed up as Santa Claus murders and mutilates young men, stringing them up with Christmas lights. After a violent confrontation with a cop in hot pursuit and a visit to a "funny" supervisor's home, a suspect is quickly rounded up and convicted.
Fifty years later, a down-on-his-luck comic book artist interviews this deviant killer in the hopes of creating a comic about his life and crimes. However, it becomes evident that he really wants to use the story to show how he feels he is connected to the violence and violent offender.
However, when another brutal crime is committed, the story of the murders of the past and the story being told in the present become even more intertwined. Dark, intriguing, and layered, The Deviant is an enticing first volume.
