Book series to TV show, 6: Gold Seer trilogy

Every four weeks, I will be writing about a book series that I think could make a great TV show.

I truly enjoyed reading The Gold Seer trilogy. There was a delightful mix of flawed yet intriguging characters, found family, history, magic, and shippable romances. While the main character is certainly flawed and has to learn about some of her problematic ways, I think that can be handled in a tactful manner with the right cast and crew. The theme of found family is also a classic for a reason--it's beloved. Also, The Gold Seer trilogy does a great job mapping this out and adding to the found family when appropriate.

While the gold rush isn't a period of particular fascination at the moment, I think this series could bring some interest to it. Add a dash of magic and YA drama and I think any bit of history can be brought to life. Plus, there is plenty of inherent drama in the history of the gold rush.

The main character, Lee Westfall, has the magical ability to sense gold. Something useful and thus exploitable in the world of the gold rush. This puts her in danger as magic is not a generally acknowledged part of the world and is viewed as the devil's work while also making her powerful--an inherently interesting dynamic that could play out well in the series.

Finally, the romances are so charming. I was on board with all the ships and rejoiced when they came to fruition. YA romance is key to many a YA series and author Rae Carson plays it out quite well.

Overall, The Gold Seer trilogy is ripe for an adaptation and I would eagerly watch.
