The No-Girlfriend Rule by Christen Randall

Hollis Beckwith knows that she is weird--at least by some people's standards. Despite this, she has a boyfriend (Chris) and is accepted by his group of friends. That is, for the most part. Chris and his friends have a weekly game of Secrets & Sorcery (S&S) and they have a strict "No Girlfriends at the Table” rule. Curious about S&S and wanting to be eventually accepted into Chris's S&S game, Hollis decides to check out a session at a local game store. It goes disastrously. However, she sees a flyer for a game that feels a bit more her speed.

As Hollis joins in this new S&S game, she unknowingly begins a journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance. She finds new friends, meaning, and aspects of herself in this game. But as she is pulled into this new group of friends and this new self, she starts to feel more distant from Chris and more drawn to one of the S&S players in her group in particular: Aini Amin-Shaw. As Hollis's and Aini's characters grow romantically closer, Hollis starts to get more and more confused about her feelings for Aini.

Author Christen Randall has expertly written an overall light-hearted tale deftly tinged with real-life and fantasy adventures, issues, personalities, emotions, and discoveries. The No-Girlfriend Rule will keep readers engaged in the S&S game, rooting for Hollis, and reflecting on themselves. Randall is one to watch.
