Taste of Marrow by Sarah Gailey
Mere months ago, Winslow Houndstooth and his crew conspired to free the Mississippi River of feral hippos. However, the job didn't go according to plan. Now songs of their deeds are sung, but the songs say that none survived. This is not true. However, the crew is scattered and isn't sure who is left alive. As the players draw closer together, they each have obstacles to overcome from kidnapping, to missing loves, to their own pasts.
Sarah Gailey boldly continues exploring her alternate history world that asks the question: what if the American Hippo Bill passed? Short, imaginative, and compelling, Taste of Marrow is an excellent follow-up to its prequel River of Teeth.
