The London Séance Society: A Novel by Sarah Penner
Two murders occurred on All Hallows' Eve, 1873. One, the younger sister of spiritualist understudy Lenna Wickes. The other, the president of The London Séance Society. Lenna and her mentor, Vaudeline D’Allaire, hurry from a séance just outside Paris to return to London to investigate as soon as word of the second death reaches them. There, they find an entanglement of mysteries grounded in the natural, but to be investigated with both the natural and supernatural. Lenna's story is told in parallel with that of the member of The London Séance Society who bade Vaudeline return to London to solve the death of the society's president.
These ensnared mysteries culminate in a dramatic séance where more spirits are present than were bargained for.
Moments of seductive prose, satisfying enigma-undoing, and ghostly suspense compound to make The London Séance Society an engrossing read.
