Book to movie, 10: Nightfall
Every four weeks, I will be writing about a book that I think could make a great movie.
In a world with fourteen straight years of day followed by fourteen years of night, the key thing is to observe the ritual. Homes are tidied. Tables are set. And the people sail south before sunset. But when twins Marin and Kana discover that their friend, Line, has gone missing, they have to make a choice: leave him behind or risk the night to search for him.
Nightfall is a spooky and cinematic YA fantasy novel that I think has some great hooks for a movie. There is a ticking clock, bonds of friendship, and, perhaps, a societal myth that isn't what it seems. All of these elements would serve a movie quite well (though, to be honest, it could also be a TV show, I think).
I would eagerly watch an adaptation.
