Under Loch and Key by Lana Ferguson

Keyanna “Key” MacKay has arrived in Scotland and her, perhaps ill-advised, pilgrimage to her estranged grandmother's house has been thwarted--and by sheep no less! Refusing to take it as a sign of things to come, Key wanders (after some direction from a friendly local) to loch. Her father had told her stories of this loch--including one of a loch-dwelling monster that saved his life. Now though, Key's father has passed and his last utterance was to be taken to the loch once more. As Key gets ready to sprinkle his ashes into the loch, she is suddenly "rescued" by Lachlan Greer who calls her an idiot for standing on a precarious outcropping of rocks.

Needless to say, Key's trip to Scotland does not start off well.

But as she gets to know Lachlan, her grandparents, and a cousin she'd never heard of, she starts to feel--bit by bit--more at home. But Lachlan continues to aggravate her. That is, until she uncovers his monstrous secret--as well as magical ones belonging to her own family--and becomes determined to free him of it.

To be frank, you have to be into the idea of somewhat-monster intimacy to read this book (note, though, that the intimacy is not monstrous!). If that doesn't dissuade you, Under Loch and Key by Lana Ferguson is a wonderful enemies-to-lovers (but were they ever really enemies?) paranormal romance. Key, Lachlan, and even the side characters are distinct with realistic flaws that all culminate in a final standoff.

This book had me at its dedication, which I won't spoil for you. But, I do think it's a great, quick way to gauge if you'll enjoy this book.
