The Wizard, the Fairy, and the Magic Chicken by Helen Lester (Author) and Lynn Munsinger (Illustrator)
A wizard, a fairy, and a magic chicken are in competition with each other. Which of them has the best wand? Which of them has the most potent magic? Which of them can create the biggest monster?
Wait, what?
In a contest based in ego and jealousy, a wizard, a fairy, and a magic chicken create three monsters that they then must work together to defeat.
The Wizard, the Fairy, and the Magic Chicken by Helen Lester was one of my favorite books as a kid. My brother and I asked our mom to read it to us so many times that she hid it (not deterred, we went on a hunt to find it). And if that's not high praise, tell me higher and I'll use it. Overall, its message of teamwork combined with illustrator Lynn Munsinger's playful artwork is a winning combination.
