Judging books by their covers, 12
Just want to share some books whose covers I love! Once every 4 weeks, I'll post 4 books and super short synopses of books whose covers catch my eye.
- The Eyes and the Impossible by Dave Eggers (Author) and Shawn Harris (Illustrator) (McSweeney's, 2023): A wild, lyrical, hilarious and beautiful story of a wild dog living and surviving in an urban park.
- Luka and Little Feather by Ashlee Alicea (Author) and Nix Doxtater (Illustrator) (Orange Hat Publishing, 2023): While out exploring by the river, Luka finds something that will change their lives forever-a yotnʌyátku, or "magic stone."
- Witchcraft for Wayward Girls by Grady Hendrix (Berkley, 2025): Fifteen-year-old Fern arrives at Wellwood House in the sweltering summer of 1970, pregnant, frightened, and alone. Under the watchful eye of the stern Miss Wellwood, she meets a dozen other girls in the same predicament. Then Fern meets a librarian who gives her an occult book about witchcraft, and power is in the hands of the girls for the first time in their lives. But power can destroy as easily as it creates, and it’s never given freely.
- Eerie Legends: An Illustrated Exploration of Creepy Creatures, the Paranormal, and Folklore from around the World by Ricardo Diseño (Author) and Steve Mockus (Contributor) (Chronicle Books, 2024): A fascinating and frightening collection of folk tale monsters, ghosts, and other scary things that dwell in the dark.
