Book to movie, 7: The Dead Lands
Every four weeks, I will be writing about a book that I think could make a great movie.
How can a hook like "post-apocalyptic re-imagining of the Lewis and Clark saga" not immediately draw interest? Okay, not everyone is me, but still! This book has stayed with me, though many of the details escape me. I think this book played the delicate balance of history, fantasy, and science fiction perfectly. Additionally, characters were compelling and there were even more women in this tale than are typically discussed for the era of history that inspired the book.
Mixing a classic piece of American history and putting it into a fantastical and post-apocalyptic world is a winning combination. The strong characters will help carry this story to life. I realize the book is about ten years old at this point, so some stuff may need to be adapted, but that is true of most books.
I would line up to see this The Dead Lands as a film.
