The Prospects: A Novel by KT Hoffman
Gene Ionescu, despite his optimistic nature, has never been good at wanting things. Yes, he did want his current career in baseball--even though many said he wouldn't be able to achieve it because he would be the first out trans player--and even on his current team The Beavers, but he's never dreamed of making it from the minors to the majors. After all, he is happy with what he has. This doesn't keep him from encouraging his team and trying hard though. What he wants in full changes when a college teammate and rival player, Luis Estrada, gets traded to The Beavers.
At first Gene and Luis, despite having played on the same team in college, cannot manage even a working relationship on the field. After a stern talking to by their coach, the two begin rooming together on the road and working on their teamwork. As the two get closer though, will Gene let himself want what's terrifyingly being offered to him?
The Prospects is a steamy sports romance novel. Gene and Luis go from gruff rivals to, ultimately, deeply lovely partners. The journey there is authentic and will tug at the heartstrings of readers. This novel is glorious and, at its core, jubilant.
