Holly Quick Backlist Reviews, Bookman!: Week 70
Just to get through some backlog of books I've read, I'll post 4 super short reviews of backlist titles every Wednesday. This is my final week of these!
- The Indians of the Western Great Lakes, 1615-1760 by W. Vernon Kinietz (University of Michigan Regional, 1965): I've learned some interesting stuff about the Huron in it...although it occasionally seems like the author left out words. 4 stars.
- The Illustrated Encyclopedia of the Aztec & Maya: The Definitive Chronicle Of The Ancient Peoples Of Mexico & Central America - Including The Aztec, Maya, Olmec, Mixtec, Toltec & Zapotec by Charles Phillips (Lorenz Books, 2007): Useful reference. 4 stars.
- American Gods by Neil Gaiman (William Morrow, 2001): I highly recommend. It is graphic just FYI, but I really loved the premise of it and Gaiman is great at creating these weird worlds and cultures that are alongside our own. 5 stars.
- The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss (DAW, 2011): I highly recommend The Kingkiller Chronicles, however keep in mind that the author, Patrick Rothfuss, takes a long time in finishing books. I really loved how the last page was almost lyrical. While a lot happened in this book, some parts were a little slow and there are still some unanswered questions, but since this is meant to be a trilogy hopefully they'll all be answered soon. The book also has a good level of humorous moments that help balance out the darker parts. 5 stars.
