Book series to TV show, 1: The Sword of Truth
Periodically, I will be writing about a book series that I think could make a great TV show. I am still working out the pace for this, but I hope to figure it out soon.
Yes, a TV show was already created for The Sword of Truth, but it was not up to par. With that out of the way, let me say why I think The Sword of Truth series could make a great TV show if done properly.
The Sword of Truth series is an epic fantasy series that primarily follows Richard and Kahlan--two individuals who fall in love, are torn apart, and are talked about in prophecies often. They each have different and, at times, terrifying powers that come into play at perfectly dramatic points. Beyond Richard and Kahlan are a great cast of characters. While I do not wish to suggest that the series is perfect at representation, the characters are varied and could easily be adjusted in a TV show to be more diverse. The key to making it successful is the right casting. This was one of my issues with the existing TV show--casting was quite off for some characters.
The series has lots of ups and downs, complexities, prophecies, and battles. It is also simply quite long which allows for a rich show. Furthermore, some practical or special effects will be necessary as this is a world of magic, fantastical beasts, and majestic scenery.
The Sword of Truth series is what introduced me to the world of epic fantasy, so it will always have a special place in my heart. I would love to revisit the world through a camera lens.
