Holly Quick Backlist Reviews, Bookman!: Week 37

Just to get through some backlog of books I've read, I'll post 4 super short reviews of backlist titles every Wednesday.

  1. Join by Steve Toutonghi (Soho Press, 2016): A fascinating (if at times convoluted) sci-fi book about identity, mortality, what it means to be human, and what it means to be united. 4 stars.
  2. The Wilderness of Ruin: A Tale of Madness, Fire, and the Hunt for America's Youngest Serial Killer by Roseanne Montillo (William Morrow, 2015): "What's with all the Herman Melville bio?" is not something I'd expected to say after reading a book about America's youngest serial killer. 3 stars.
  3. Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World by Jack Weatherford (Crown, 2004): Not only does it give a fresh perspective on Genghis Khan, but it also reveals some prejudice against the Mongols I wasn't aware of. 5 stars.
  4. Twelve Years a Slave by Solomon Northup (Derby & Miller, 1853): Graphic and poignant. 5 stars.
