Holly Quick Backlist Reviews, Bookman!: Week 43
Just to get through some backlog of books I've read, I'll post 4 super short reviews of backlist titles every Wednesday.
- Ms. Marvel Volume 1: No Normal by G. Willow Wilson (Marvel Universe, 2014): Cool concept paired with themes of wanting to belong and self-discovery make a fantastic volume. 5 stars.
- Free Country: A Tale of The Children's Crusade by Neil Gaiman (Vertigo, 2015): Amazing art. The use of folklore, history, literature, and just Gaiman's own imagination to explain why some children vanish across time and place will keep readers rapt. 5 stars.
- The Big Rewind by Libby Cudmore (MorrowPb, 2016): The mystery doesn't shine the brightest, but that is more than made up for with the main character's journey through realizing how she deals with and relates to the past (and how others do as well) and how that can be toxic. 4 stars.
- Motel of Mysteries by David Macaulay (Clarion Books, 1979): Incredible illustrations. This book demonstrates our fascination with artifacts as well as prompts readers to think about what their stuff truly means. 5 stars.
