Holly Quick Backlist Reviews, Bookman!: Week 17

Just to get through some backlog of books I've read, I'll post 4 super short reviews of backlist titles every Wednesday.

  1. Sleepless: Volumes 1 and 2 by Sarah Vaughn (Author), Alissa Sallah (Cover Art, Artist), and Leila del Duca (Cover Art, Artist) (Image Comics, 2018): A beautiful, touching, and ship-tastic graphic novel. 5 stars.
  2. The Spider and the Fly: A Reporter, a Serial Killer, and the Meaning of Murder by Claudia Rowe (Dey Street Books, 2017): While corresponding with a serial killer, author and journalist Claudia Rowe does some deep soul-searching to ask herself why. A gruesome read at times, but well-done. 5 stars.
  3. Milkman: A Novel by Anna Burns (Graywolf Press, 2018): An immensely difficult read that does not pay off. 2 stars.
  4. Human Acts: A Novel by Han Kang (Hogarth, 2014):  This novel is eye-opening and has some incredibly beautiful moments, though they are always heavily tinged with tragedy. While it takes a strong stomach to handle the amount of death, rot, torture, and sexual assault, this novel is an immensely powerful one. 5 stars.
