Tusk Love by Thea Guanzon

Fans of Critical Role's campaign 2, will remember the hilarious totem Tusk Love that appeared and helped foreshadow the romance of Jester and Fjord. The wonderful author Thea Guanzon has taken up the task of turning that referenced romance novel into one all romantasy readers can enjoy.

Guinevere knows her place in the world. She is to marry well so that she can keep supporting her family that had to make the social climb themselves. And, she is to do her best to keep her dangerous, unpredictable, and powerful magic hidden.

However, as she is being escorted to her betrothed, her carriage is violently attacked. Lucky for her, the gruff and immensely capable Oskar was also travelling nearby and helps aide her escape from the bandits. Oskar quickly realizes that if he were to leave Guinevere to her own devices, she will simply not make it. Feeling honor-bound to help her, Oskar decides to accompany Guinevere to her betrothed.

While they journey together and learn from each other, Oskar and Guinevere find themselves quickly growing closer together and immensely attracted to each other. But, can they find a way to make their own happy life together?

Tusk Love could easily have been a throwaway romantasy parody, written simply for a cash grab. This is far from the case. Author Thea Guanzon has lovingly crafted a delightful and passionate romantasy. Oskar and Guinevere feel real despite being works of fantastical fiction. Their relationship builds realistically and their passionate scenes are a perfect level of spice. Finally, Guanzon also throws in some well-paced stakes that keep the book's momentum.

While fans of Critical Role will get a few extra Easter eggs, those completely unfamiliar with the D&D-based material will still enjoy this fantastic romantasy.
