Book to movie, 14: Night of the Living Trekkies

Every four weeks, I will be writing about a book that I think could make a great movie.

Night of the Living Trekkies by Kevin David Anderson and Sam Stall is a fun-filled, horror romp through Star Trek fandom. I found this book at a used bookstore and knew it had to be mine. I am a huge Star Trek fan as well as a frequenter of conventions, so this was a perfect fit for me.

The basic plot of Night of the Living Trekkies focuses on Jim Pike as he works at a hotel having a Star Trek convention when a zombie virus breaks out. The book is best described as a romp.

I believe the combination of Star Trek fandom, zombies, and convention conventions is a winning recipe for a fun horror movie the likes of Shawn of the Dead. I think this movie would work best as live action, featuring cameos from a variety of Star Trek actors (with the new shows, there have to be some actors who would find this project hilarious).

While the key audience would primarily be Star Trek fans, I do think that those who proudly identify as nerds and geeks in general would be tickled by this movie idea.
