The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats

The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats is one of the picture books that truly stands out from being read in my childhood. Yes, it did come out in 1962, so it was not new when I was a child, but I think that shows how this book has stood the test of time.

The Snowy Day follows a young boy, Peter, as he explores his snowy world. The story is a mix of wonder, exploration, joy, and even a touch of sadness that ultimately turns back into the more positive emotions.

The illustrations clearly convey how the world changes when covered in a blanket of snow. There is also a wonderful texture to the illustrations that jump out despite the book being 2D. And, as mentioned beofre, the beauty of these illustrations just add to the timelessness of this picture book.
