Book series to TV show, 14: Lore Olympus
Every four weeks, I will be writing about a book series that I think could make a great TV show.
The Lore Olympus series by Rachel Smythe is a modern retelling of the Hades and Persephone myth. It is a tender, slow burn with twists and earned darkness (including, I must warn, sexual assualt perpetuated against Persephone by someone who isn't Hades). Despite the slow pace of the romance, it is so endearing and enrapturing. The large cast of characters feel realistic and relatable despite being in the pantheon.
Lore Olympus would best be served as an adult animated series. I say this because author and illustrator Rachel Smythe's art style is gorgeous and I'd hate for it to be lost. I say adult because a lot of the themes would, in my opinion, be too dark for a young audience (though, of course, I always leave such decisions to parents).
I think this TV series could be a hit as already Lore Olympus has sustained a change from a web comic to a graphic novel, so I don't see why the audience wouldn't then translate as well as pick up new followers as the series transitioned into an animated one. Other than that, it has the depth, heart, and unique take on classic myths that are a winning combination.
