Book to movie, 13: Elizabeth of York: A Tudor Queen and Her World
Every four weeks, I will be writing about a book that I think could make a great movie.
King Henry VIII has been and continues to be an historical figure of great fascination. But while he is well-known and, to a lesser extent, so are his wives, few know about his mother. After her father and brothers' deaths, her uncle then usurped the throne and declared Elizabeth a bastard. Later, as her aunt was dying, her uncle possibly pursued her to be his new queen. But, Elizabeth cleverly redirected history and married Henry VII. Together, they ultimately took the throne back and established the Tudor line.
I think because of the fascination with the women who revolved around King Henry VIII, there is a market for learning about the least known woman in his life. I also think the world that Elizabeth of York survived has plenty of drama to make her a dynamic figure and (with the right casting) an incredible figure for audience to root for and be invested in. Also, the time of Elizabeth of York would lead to incredible costumes, which are always a big hit.
