Kindred: A Graphic Novel Adaptation by Octavia E. Butler (Author), Damian Duffy (Adapter), and John Jennings (Illustrator)

It's 1976 and Dana has just moved with her husband, Kevin when suddenly she feels faint. She opens her eyes and she's at a river and a little boy named Rufus is drowning. Acting quickly, Dana saves the boy, but his father is suspicious of her sudden appearance and points a gun to her head. Blinking, Dana is back with Kevin who informs her that she completely disappeared for a few seconds. Thus begins Dana's dangerous, frightening, and impactful saga that is traumatically tangled with Rufus--her own ancestor.

John Jennings's art masterfully tells Damian Duffy's adaptation of Octavia E. Butler's iconic work. Kindred: A Graphic Novel Adaptation delves into the horrors of slavery and the complexity of entanglements that slavery forced and still enforces. Kindred: A Graphic Novel Adaptation is raw, traumatic, and evocative.
