Holly Quick Backlist Reviews, Bookman!: Week 12

Just to get through some backlog of books I've read, I'll post 4 super short reviews of backlist titles every Wednesday.

  1. Legacy of Orisha, Volumes 1 and 2 by Tomi Adeyemi (Henry Holt and Co., 2018): A highly engrossing YA fantasy series rooted in West African culture. 5 stars.
  2. Red: A History of the Redhead by Jacky Colliss Harvey (Black Dog & Leventhal, 2015): A well-researched history of prejudice against redheads. However, at times the discussion of prejudice comes off as relatively insensitive. 3 stars.
  3. The Bridgertons, Books 1-7 by Julia Quinn (Avon, 2000): A historical romance series with a loving family at its heart. While sometimes overrun with cliches, the Regency Era gossip girl shines. 4 stars.
  4. Vampires, Burial, and Death: Folklore and Reality by Paul Barber (Yale University Press, 1988): Thoroughly researched and, at times, chilling. However, a deeper look into why and what vampires symbolized would have been welcome. 4 stars.
