Judging books by their covers, 9
Just want to share some books whose covers I love! Once every 4 weeks, I'll post 4 books and super short synopses of books whose covers catch my eye.
- The Body Is Not an Apology: The Power of Radical Self-Love by Sonya Renee Taylor (Berrett-Koehler Publishers, 2018): World-renowned activist and poet Sonya Renee Taylor invites us to reconnect with the radical origins of our minds and bodies and celebrate our collective, enduring strength. As we awaken to our own indoctrinated body shame, we feel inspired to awaken others and to interrupt the systems that perpetuate body shame and oppression against all bodies.
- Dogs Just Know by M.H. Clark (Author) and Emily Taylor (Illustrator) (Compendium, 2024): This adorable, illustrated gift book is a celebration of all the lessons our furry friends teach us.
- The Last Starry Night: Vincent Van Gogh by Jamison Odone (Black Panel Press, 2024): After his release from the Saint-Paul asylum in 1890, Vincent Van Gogh wandered the French countryside before stumbling on the Auberge Ravoux, a quaint little inn in Auvers-sur-Oise. Although still plagued by mental illness, he found some peace there among his adoptive family, painting over 75 works of art in just three months.
- Where Sleeping Girls Lie by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé (Feiwel & Friends, 2024): A girl new to boarding school discovers dark secrets and coverups after her roommate disappears, in this "beautifully written coming-of-age mystery that should appeal to fans of Tiffany Jackson, Kara Thomas, and Jumata Emill."
