Judging books by their covers, 3

Just want to share some books whose covers I love! Once every 4 weeks, I'll post 4 books and super short synopses of books whose covers catch my eye.

  1. The Gracekeepers: A Novel by Kristy Logan (Crown, 2015): Inspired in part by Scottish myths and fairytales, The Gracekeepers tells a modern story of an irreparably changed world: one that harbors the same isolation and sadness, but also joys and marvels of our own age.
  2. Carrying Albert Home: The Somewhat True Story of A Man, His Wife, and Her Alligator by Home Hickamn (William Morrow, 2015): Big Fish meets The Notebook in this emotionally evocative story about a man, a woman, and an alligator that is a moving tribute to love.
  3. The Bear and the Nightingale: A Novel by Katherine Arden (Del Rey, 2017): AVasya’s widowed father brings home a new wife from Moscow. Fiercely devout, Vasya’s stepmother forbids her family from honoring their household spirits, but Vasya fears what this may bring. And indeed, misfortune begins to stalk the village.
  4. Binti by Nnedi Okorafor (Tordotcom, 2015): Her name is Binti, and she is the first of the Himba people ever to be offered a place at Oomza University, the finest institution of higher learning in the galaxy. But to accept the offer will mean giving up her place in her family to travel between the stars among strangers who do not share her ways or respect her customs.
