Wandering Stars: A novel by Tommy Orange

Generations ago, a young boy survived the Sand Creek Massacre of 1864. He goes on to be forced into a prison castle where English and Christianity are brutally thrust upon him. His son, Charles, then ends up at a boarding school being abused by the same guard who terrorized him. Charles finds some reprieve in his bond with fellow boarding school student, Opal.

Then, it's time to flash forward to the present once again and make contact with Charles's and Opal's descendants--all struggling with epigenetic and generational trauma. Heartbreaking, vivid, and evocative, Wandering Stars conjures the world both before and after the events of the author's previous book, There There.

For those who loved There There by Tommy Orange, Wandering Stars is a must-read. However, it is also incredible reading for those unfamiliar with Orange's previous work.
