Book to movie, 1: The Bewitching Hour

Periodically, I will be writing about a book that I think could make a great movie. I am still working out the pace for this, but I hope to figure it out soon (currently looking like once every four weeks).

Buffy fans crave more content and this book delivered. The Bewitching Hour takes you into fan favorite Tara Maclay's past. It was well-paced YA fantasy mystery with a shippable queer romance (if you're curious about the book, you can read my full review of The Bewitching Hour by Ashley Poston here). The setting of a high school mixed with murder and magic is a recipe for success and with a built-in fan base, I think a movie of The Bewitching Hour is an easy hit.

Here comes the snag, I would encourage not to include Joss Whedon in this theoretical film as he been revealed to be more problematic than previously thought (see Whedon's Wiki section titled "Accusations of workplace harassment"). However, I don't believe Whedon owns the copyright to Buffy or related properties (indeed the publisher of this book would suggest that Disney owns them). Thus, it should be easy to create this film sans Whedon.
