Books on my to-read list, 5
Just want to share some books I'm looking forward to! Once every 4 weeks, I'll post 4 super short previews of books I'm excited to read.
- Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer (Milkweed Editions, 2013): As a botanist, Robin Wall Kimmerer has been trained to ask questions of nature with the tools of science. As a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, she embraces the notion that plants and animals are our oldest teachers. Kimmerer brings these two lenses of knowledge together to take us on “a journey that is every bit as mythic as it is scientific, as sacred as it is historical, as clever as it is wise” (Elizabeth Gilbert).
- Ace of Spades by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé (Feiwel & Friends, 2021): Gossip Girl meets Get Out in Ace of Spades, a YA contemporary thriller about two students, Devon & Chiamaka, and their struggles against an anonymous bully.
- The Art Thief: A True Story of Love, Crime, and a Dangerous Obsession by Michael Finkel (Knopf, 2023): In this spellbinding portrait of obsession and flawed genius, Finkel gives us one of the most remarkable true-crime narratives of our times, a riveting story of art, theft, love, and an insatiable hunger to possess beauty at any cost.
- Dungeons and Drama by Kristy Boyce (Delacorte Press, 2024): When it comes to romance, sometimes it doesn't hurt to play games. A fun YA romcom full of fake dating hijinks!
